Yet Another Web Learner

YAWL is a free and open learning platform designed for university students studying mathematics and physics. No subscriptions, no progression locks — just good practice material.

The Mission

Textbooks teach theory. YAWL gives you a place to practise it. The platform is built around the belief that active recall — answering questions from memory — leads to much better long-term retention than passive re-reading.

Every card on YAWL requires you to engage: pick an option, type a number, fill in an equation. No highlighting, no pretending.

Who It's For

University students in STEM disciplines — whether you're in the first semester wrestling with calculus, or preparing for an advanced electrodynamics exam.

YAWL is also useful for anyone who wants to refresh or strengthen their maths and physics foundations, regardless of formal study.

Open Platform

All content is community-contributed. Logged-in users can create topics, lessons, and cards. Official content is reviewed and marked — but nothing stops anyone from adding their own study material.

The platform is self-hosted and open source. You can run your own instance for your course or study group.

Technology

Built with React, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL. Equations are rendered with KaTeX for crisp mathematical notation. The Android app is a native wrapper via Capacitor — same codebase as the web app.

Runs on a single Docker Compose stack. Lightweight, auditable, easy to self-host.
